FEMALE SURVIVAL Test / Self Reliance / FIRE / Cabin Life Ep 67
Self Reliance and preparedness are the theme of Maureen's wilderness challenge of starting a fire, at their off grid cabin , near Algonquin Provincial Park, in North Central Ontario, Canada. While talking about starting their campfires, at the "Cabin Life with Glenn and Maureen" Live Stream, Glenn challenged Maureen to start the next Live Stream campfire.
Accepting the challenge, Maureen sets out on her own to start a campfire, and make tea. Explaining the steps she takes, Maureen collects the yellow birch bark, small tinder and wood needed to start the fire. She talks about the importance of being prepared for an emergency before one occurs, by practicing things they would need to do on spur of the moment in an emergency ... like starting a fire. Maureen also talks about her thoughts while she and Glenn attempted to start fire with their ferro rods in frigid -35 / -40 c temperatures during Episodes 15 & 16 of Cabin Life with Glenn and Maureen.
By the time Maureen's ready to get out her ferro rod, and start the fire, the weather turns on her, adding some rain to her challenge. The materials became damp, the ferro rod was difficult to spark in the rain, but she finds a way to overcome the difficulty of starting fire in the rain. Once the birch bark was on fire, the small tinder and wood are added, with the pot of water. After successfully boiling water, Maureen enjoys a nice cup of mint tea, made with fresh mint, and a touch of chamomile in a tea ball.
