Two female astronauts made history on Friday as they carried out the first ever all female space walk.

Christina Koch and Jessica Meir replace a failed power controller at 11:50 GMT.

It was the very first spacewalk for Jessica Meir, who became the 15th woman ever to spacewalk.

Although NASA did not plan the all-female walk, they said it was bound to happen due to the increasing number of female astronauts.

Koch’s and Meir’s 2013 class of astronaut candidates was 50 per cent women.
