They tell the story of the battle over Cynthia Hesdra's fortune. Hesdra was an ex-slave woman who amassed great wealth and maintained a safe-house for runaway slaves in Nyack New York. The films name is derived from the community, called Skunk Hollow, where free blacks lived and was founded by a former enslaved African, Jack Earnest located along the New York, New Jersey state line that existed sixty years before slavery was abolished in New Jersey. Jack was called Ernest because he was so determined to be free.
